Today, more than a billion people worldwide can’t meet their basic needs, and can’t live to their full potential despite working extremely hard every day. This is unacceptable.
Greater Well Being of Individuals
We dream of a world where people aren’t just out of poverty, but are thriving and living good lives of meaning and well being.
Redistribution of Opportunities, Access, and Choice
We believe in systemic change, to redistribute these systems so that they work fairly for all.
EWB UVic Campus Activities
Fight For Fair Trade
Fair trade is the idea that farmers in disadvantaged countries should be payed fairly for their products. All too often, these hard working individuals are kept in perpetual poverty due to unfair trade practices, one failed crop away from starvation. We believe that UVic can do better, and we will fight to reach a fair trade campus certification.
One of the hallmarks of our organization, a Junior Fellowship (JF) is an opportunity for students to go overseas to one of our four target countries and work with one of our Social Ventures. This is NOT a payed vacation, JF’s have real impact and we expect the selected individuals to bring back and spread what they learn. For more info on what JFs are, and how to apply, click on the Junior Fellow tab!
Kumvana Fellowship Program
EWB doesn’t just send people to Africa! We also bring incredible Systems Change leader from Africa here to Canada. Over the course of a week, we set these amazing people up with local leaders, host talks and workshops, and generally try to offer everything Victoria has. Last year, EWB UVic had the pleasure of hosting Elijah Amoo Addo, founder and CEO of Food for All Ghana. His story was incredible, and we encourage you to read more about him! This year, we will be hosting two Fellows in January. Keep an eye out on campus and social media for speaking events and workshops! For more info on the Kumvana Program, visit here!
And much more!
